Troop 581 Returns to Camping!

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, BSA and Troop 581 stopped gathering for meetings and campouts in keeping with state and local polices. But by September, BSA had learned how to safely hold outdoor gatherings. With that, Troop 581 held its first local, post-COVID campout at the Greenville Family Farm Campground in Haymarket, VA. It was a chance to brush off the cobwebs and get back to what Troop 581 is really about – outside adventure.

The Troop set up camp Friday night and by Saturday morning was ready for a full day of scouting adventure. This include fishing, some games as well as welcoming a few local Webelos who came to see how a Boy Scout troop camps. That evening the Scout leaders held a special campfire ceremony. Most of our first year Scouts that joined the troop in the spring never had the opportunity for a formal crossing over ceremony and to be officially welcomed into the Troop. So Troop 581 welcomed them in epic style by torch light.
