For the Scouts of Troop 581, Summer Camp is the highlight of the year. It’s a chance to travel to away from home and spend a week camping, swimming, fishing and participating in all manner of scouting adventures. This summer, 31 of our Scouts traveled to West Virginia to the James C. Justice National Scout Camp.

Justice Scout Camp offers challenging advancement opportunities, activity exploration, and Scouting traditions including instruction in over 40 different merit badges, aquatics, COPE and climbing, fishing, outdoors skills and wheeled sports. For visiting Scouts, its just a lot of fun.

Ten of the troop’s newest Scouts participated in the Brown Sea Island program geared towards first year Scouts. This program gives them the opportunity to accomplish many of the rank requirements for Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Scout, provides an introduction to the traditions of Scouting and serves as a major bonding event for a young patrol. The more experienced Scouts chose from a wide variety of merit badges and outdoors activities.

Next year’s summer camp plans are being finalized by the troop Patrol Leader’s Council but wherever we land, its sure to be memorable.
