Summer Camp 2022

Every year, Troop 581 makes summer camp as epic as possible and the summer of 2022 was no exception. This year, the troop returned to Camp Raven Knob located in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Camp Raven Knob provides a great selection of outdoors adventure for Scouts of all ages.

Our first year Scouts participated in the Raven Scouts program which focuses on learning many of the Scout through First Class skills. Some of our first year Scouts were even able to achieve the rank of Tenderfoot while at camp!

For Scouts that have been with us a while, there were over 60 merit badge classes to choose from including Canoeing, Indian Lore, Leather work, Environmental Science, Geology and Astronomy.  And there were several program areas available to all Scouts for general outdoors fun including a robust aquatics area where Scouts could sail small boats, paddle board or just swim.

Camp Raven Knob is a favorite for Troop 581. The facilities are great, over 260 merit badges were earned (with many more started) and several Scouts advanced in rank. But the mark of a great Summer Camp is if everyone had a fun and safe adventure in the outdoors. By all accounts, this was a resounding success. Troop 581 is already planning next summer’s adventure to Camp James C. Justice National Scout Camp in Mt. Hope, West Virginia and we are hoping to make it as great as ever.
