Scouting Heritage Campout

In February 2025, Troop 581 returned to Camp Rock Enon located near Gore, VA. A favorite of the troop, this rustic Scout camp offers all the amenities of a modern camp while maintaining a historic feel. The site had once been a hotel and tourist retreat due to the hot springs located there. The Boy Scouts of America purchased the property in 1944 and has run Camp Rock Enon ever since. This rich history provided the perfect setting for Troop 581’s scouting heritage campout where Scouts got back to the basics of camping. They also got to work on the Scouting Heritage Merit Badge. They learned about the founders of our Scouting program, the history of our Troop and got to show off some personal scouting memorabilia.

Later, some of the Scouts took “Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops” or ILST. This training aims to help Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. ILST is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Scouts and is a prerequisite for Scouts to participate in the more advanced leadership course National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).
