Canoeing the Shenandoah River

Every year, Troop 581 takes at least one weekend to go canoeing. One of its favorite locations in on the Shenandoah River. This May, the troop headed to Luray, Virginia and the Shenandoah River Outfitters for a weekend of canoeing and camping.  On Saturday morning, Scouts were outfitted with paddles and personal flotation devices and headed to the river. Once paired up, the troop headed downriver to the first campsite.

After paddling around 11 miles, they arrived at the campsite and set up for evening meals and a good night’s rest. The next morning, it was back to the river to complete the 22-mile trek. At the stop point, the troop stacked canoes and caught the outfitter bus back to the start point. Its always a treat to get out on the river and hopefully the troop won’t wait until next year to do it again.
